Every year on 6 September, Pakistan observes Defence Day to honor the courage, sacrifices, and patriotism of the brave men and women of the Pakistan Armed Forces. It is a day of remembrance for those who defended the nation’s sovereignty with courage and determination. Defence Day reminds us that peace is protected through vigilance, sacrifice, and unity.

Defence in the Light of the Holy Quran

The Holy Quran teaches believers to remain prepared for the defence of their community while striving for peace.

«”Prepare against them whatever force and steeds of war you can, to deter the enemies of Allah and your enemies.”
(Surah Al-Anfal 8:60)»

The Quran also emphasizes justice and warns against aggression:

«”Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not love the transgressors.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:190)»

These verses show that Islam permits defence against aggression while requiring justice, restraint, and respect for moral principles.

Defence in the Light of Hadith

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized the importance of protecting life, faith, and society.

«”Whoever is killed defending his property is a martyr; whoever is killed defending his life is a martyr; whoever is killed defending his religion is a martyr; and whoever is killed defending his family is a martyr.”
(Jami’ al-Tirmidhi; Sunan Abu Dawud)»

This Hadith highlights the honor given to those who sacrifice themselves in the defence of legitimate rights.

Sayings of Imam Ali (A.S.)

Imam Ali (A.S.) emphasized courage, justice, and readiness in protecting society.

«”Do not let your guard down against your enemy, even if he appears friendly.”
(Attributed in Nahj al-Balagha’s letters and wisdom literature.)»

He also taught:

«”The worth of every person is according to what they do well.”
(Nahj al-Balagha, Saying 81)»

These teachings encourage courage, responsibility, vigilance, and excellence in serving the nation.

Importance of Defence Day

Defence Day is a reminder of the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s armed forces and citizens. It strengthens our sense of patriotism and inspires us to work together for a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Pakistan.

History of 6 September

On 6 September 1965, Pakistan defended itself during the Indo-Pak war of 1965. The Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, and Pakistan Navy displayed courage and determination in protecting the country’s sovereignty. The sacrifices of soldiers and civilians are remembered with gratitude every year.

Pakistan’s Growing Defence Strength

Over the decades, Pakistan has strengthened its defence capabilities through professional training, modern technology, indigenous defence production, and improved coordination among its armed forces. Today, Pakistan’s military is respected for its professionalism, discipline, and commitment to national security.

International Defence Cooperation

Pakistan maintains defence cooperation with many friendly countries through military training, joint exercises, defence production, and peacekeeping missions. Pakistani armed forces have also earned international recognition for their service in United Nations peacekeeping operations, reflecting their professionalism and commitment to global peace.

Following the Vision of Quaid-e-Azam

The greatest tribute we can pay to our martyrs is to build a strong, united, and prosperous Pakistan according to the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

His guiding principles remain:

– Faith (Iman)

– Unity (Ittehad)

– Discipline (Nazm)

By following these principles, strengthening education, promoting justice, respecting the rule of law, and working for national development, every Pakistani can contribute to a stronger nation.

Tribute to Our Brave Defenders

We honor the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering spirit of all those who stand guard over Pakistan. We pray for our martyrs, veterans, and serving personnel whose dedication ensures the safety and dignity of our homeland.

On this Defence Day, we salute our brave defenders who safeguard our nation with strength, courage, and dedication. May their sacrifices always be remembered, and may Allah bless Pakistan with lasting peace, unity, and prosperity.

Pakistan Zindabad!
